Email just in from Denise Sommers, National Team Coach in Zurich…

Dear all,

Here are the results for the 1st and 2nd round matches.

Noah Browne lost to Zbynek Standera 10/9, 9/2, 9/1 and will play the plate event tomorrow

Micah Franklin def. Lorenzo Fortunato Colucci 9/6, 9/5, 9/2 and lost in the 2nd round against Amr Khaled Khalifa 9/0,9/0,9/1

Robert Maycock def. Colm Dolan 9/1,4/9,9/0,9/3 and lost in the 2nd round against Henrik Mustonen 9/2,9/0,9/5

Both Micah and Robby will be playing the plate but the draw has not been made yet.

I believe this is a great result for Bermuda 2 players in the last 64 of the world and it is a great experience for Micah and Noah to get to play the best in the world.

Kind regards
Denise

Dates for the diary from Club Manager, Dave Elliott

Au Revoir Ross
As I am sure you are all aware Ross will be leaving the island soon.
It is only right that we give him a BIG send off considering the tremendous work he has done here in Bermuda for the past 9 years or so.
There will, therefore, be a leaving party (one of quite a few I would imagine !!), here at the Club on Thursday 28th August, so please mark it in your diaries, blackberries etc
I will be sending reminders nearer the time

Re-Stringing Delay
Denise Sommers leaves the island tomorrow for a few weeks. Firstly she is taking Robbie Maycock, Micah Franklin and Noah Browne to the Men’s World Junior Championships in Switzerland. Good Luck Guys !!! Then after that she is going home for a vacation. Consequently she does not return to work until 25th August and there will be no re-stringing done until her return. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Cup Match Weekend
Only seems two minutes since last year, but already we are approaching Cup Match weekend, and as always fully expecting a SOMERSET win !!
I just want to let you know that the Club will not be staffed on Thursday 31st July, and Friday 1st, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August. I will send a further reminder out next week but if you do intend to play over the Cup Match Weekend then please ensure that you have bought your tokens beforehand.

I trust you will all have a Great & Safe Weekend,

Regards & Happy Squashing

Roger Sherratt  reports that Bermuda’s three Junior Squash players, competing in the World Junior Squash Championships in Zurich, Switzerland, have had a tremendous start in the individual championship, with 2 of our boys winning their first round matches.

Caribbean Under 19 champion, Robbie Maycock, won his first match against Colm Dolan of Ireland 9-1, 4-9, 9-0, 9-3, and will meet a Finnish player in the next round.

Micah Franklin also recorded a great win 9-6, 9-5, 9-2, against Loreno Colucci of Italy, and will meet a top ranked Egyptian in the 2nd round.

Bermuda’s youngest player, and one of the youngest in the championships, Noah Browne, lost to a Czeck player but not before he almost won the first game. He’ll now play in the Consolation matches, and later in the team championships.

Sherratt said this was an excellent start for our Bermuda team.
